RANDHIR KHARE'S BOOK ON KUTCH British Council Library
and Rupa & Co. take pleasure in announcing the arrival of Randhir
Khare's latest book With dramatic photographs by Susan Bullough-Khare, this book celebrates the resilient spirit of the people of Kutch. Assaulted by wars, droughts, famines, floods, earthquakes, visitations of locusts and rats and a myriad other natural and man-made disasters, the spirit of the people has time and again risen from the ashes like the phoenix. Written as a travel narrative, the book eloquently captures the true-life stories of ship builders, mariners, potters, crafts persons, musicians, nomadic herdsmen and people from all walks of life. Myth, legend, popular history and everyday colour weave the past and present into a magical tapestry of Kutchi tradition. The book was launched
with a reading and talk by the author at the British Library on 2nd Feb.
